She Wore Blue Velvet

She Wore Blue Velvet

A little while ago, I had the pleasure of doing a photoshoot with a great photographer here at Baylor named Erica Thorpe for a yearbook feature. I enjoyed the outfit that I wore so much for it, that I decided to talk a little about the individual pieces, where I bought them, where you can get them (or some good dupes for them), how I wore these pieces in the past, and why I decided to put this together. So let's get into it!

Bottoms Up!

We are going to start with my favorite article of clothing from this picture, my blue velvet leggings courtesy of Aerie! I'm honestly deeply obsessed with these leggings they are so freaking cool, and are a beautiful color as well as being incredibly soft. Also, the yellow and red racing stripes that go down the side add a really cool pop of color to the leggings. Now don't worry! These leggings are just as comfortable as they are fashionable. They have a really good stretch to them and also have great lining on the inside. They are perfect for the winter to keep you warm, but are also pretty breathable to wear in that early spring weather as well.

When I'm not wearing these leggings with this outfit, I definitely like to pair it with a cute sweater or oversized T, to give my casual look a little bit of a lift!

You can find them here! And also they have a couple variations as well, including pairs without the racing stripes!

A little Sparkle

So the top I chose to wear was my shimmery, long-sleeved bodysuit from Forever 21. I was actually not so sure about pairing this with the blues in my outfit because it's not quite a true black or gray due to it's shimmery nature, but I was a fan. In the past, I wore this bodysuit for special occasions or when I was going out and wanted to be a little extra, but lately I've been pairing with things in my everyday wardrobe and it's been a pretty cool thing to do.

Accessories Make The Fit

To polish of this outfit, I paired it with some shoes and accessories that I felt would still add to the outfit without overdoing it so much. I chose to put my tried and true jean jacket (courtesy of Uniqlo) with patches on, and of course my favorite knee-high Steve Maddens to go with this fit (because honestly they go with everything). But you don't have to wear heels with this type of outfit. Since it has kind of a sporty feel to it with the racing stripes on the leggings, feel free to pair it with some of your favorite tennis (i.e. your fave pair of adidas or some K-Swiss's) that way if you're not so comfortable wearing heels with it, you can easily still feel like a boss. Finally, I paired it off with some geometric gold hoops that I pilfered from my mom's closet, but I also wear this with my huge gold hoops from Forever 21.

I wear all of these pieces either together or separately throughout my daily life, so they are defs staples that can be mixed and matched with other outfits. They are also pieces that transition really well from day to night. For example, I could wear these boots with some jeans during the day, and some leather leggings at night or, with this outfit, I can take off the jacket and be ready to go out for a night of fun.

This look was honestly a perfect mix of sporty and high fashion for me and defs enjoyed not only putting it together, but getting it photographed as well. Photography credit again goes to the awesome Erica Thorpe and make sure you follow her on Insta: @ elthorpe.
